Q. Why can’t applicants just use physical slides?

A. There are several problems inherent in using the traditional method for gathering portfolios. First, a traditional slide portfolio is costly to create, manage, and mail. Second, physical slides are difficult for organizations to preview and review. Third, physical slides do not allow artists to submit newer media that incorporates audio and video elements. Fourth, slides require the submission of supplementary materials, such as slide descriptions, that can be difficult to keep track of and organize. And finally, physical slides are difficult to archive compared to online management.

Q. Why can’t applicants just use CD’s?

A. First, CD’s are often prepared incorrectly, making them impossible to view. Second, they are inconvenient to preview because each one has to be loaded and opened, which is time consuming. Third, there is no quality assurance that applicants will prepare their materials correctly when using CD’s. SlideRoom helps applicants prepare their portfolios according to guidelines that they’re required to follow. Q. We are concerned about the $10 fee applicants pay, and we don't have the money to pay this for them. Will this deter applicants?

A. Our experience has shown that when presented with the choice, applicants overwhelmingly choose the speed, convenience and security of an online option. Further, the $10 is cheaper than producing a traditional physical portfolio and cheaper than mailing big envelopes back and forth.
